The Best Christmas Present Ever!

One of my greatest blessings this year at Christmas was the card my 15 year old son made me.  I was so touched by his words.  I didn’t have a father who I felt comfortable going to with anything.  My father was and is a Good man but he to was fathered by an imperfect father.  I so much wanted my children to find their father a safe place to process life.  Even though that was one of my goals in parenting, it wasn’t too much of a reality.  I fell into the trap of parenting for the right behaviors not parenting to the heart.    The last 4 years have been a slow march back to parenting to the heart.  To hear this affirmed by my son really touched my me.  God has been so good.  I can see his grace more than ever.  Even in parenting we are given many chances to win our kids.

Take at look the card.

Dear Dad,

I hope you have a merry Christmas with peace and relaxation.  Stay strong and don’t give in , in these stressful times.

I felt it an honor and a joy at the end of htis year to commend you for your persistent effort and strong pursuit of Christ likeness.  I have to say that you’re definately becoming a better dad, and it’s been another awesome year of knowing you.  It never gets old spending time with you, even when you’re in a funky mood.  Don’t let this move to your think-tank, let it spur you on.

I also wanted to say how much it means to me that I can bring anything on my heart to you.  You make me feel so at home and willingly encourage.  Your one-in-a-million: thanks for being one-in-a-million
